Slovenia!

We just got back form a great trip in Slovenia. We spent just under a week there. We flew into Vienna and out of Amsterdam (via Vienna) to get home. Slovenia is a great place. Small, friendly people and you can still travel on a budget. It is called “little Europe” because they have a little bit of everything. Mountains, small coast, white water rafting, and several under appreciated wine regions. Just a 3.5 to 4 hour drive from Vienna. I am working on my full brief but if you would like to at least take a look at our pictures head to our Flickr site. I HIGHLY recommend taking a trip there. You can also plan to visit Venice (2.5 hours from the border) and Croatia. This would be a great trip if you had 8-14 days to dedicate.

Amazon started the wave but competitors like Sony and iRex are going to give Amazon a run for their money. Are the Kindle and Kindle DX great? Sure! Problem is you are locked into the Amazon store. Both Sony and iRex allow you to connect to your local library for “Free” books to check out and the massive Google Library. Sony partners with Border and iRex is going to partner with Barnes & Noble. Here’s a video about the new iRex reader which will be sold through Best Buy. $399 has a SD card and wireless capability World Wide!

iPhone!

Well Annette has had the iPhone 3G for 6 months or so and I finally broke down and got one. So the iPhone is my new “Shiny Object” as Annette puts it. That means I will be spending way too much timing learning about it and all the cool things you can install, do, and hack. Yes, it is likely I will “jailbreak” my phone so I can get even more out of it. So look for lots of posts regarding the iPhone including what applications I have found most useful.

Gilbert’s Liberty Market

Across the street from the popular Joe’s BBQ is Liberty Market. Open for breakfast, lunch, and diner Liberty Market serves sandwiches, pizza, a variety of salads, one style of burger (looked good), and a variety of desert items. Visit the Liberty Market site for a complete menu. I had the picnic sandwich and Annette had the picnic salad. We liked both but Annette thought there was too much dressing on her salad. Everything was reasonably priced with appropriate sized portions. Don’t expect to take anything home. Nor will you pay for it just to take it home and leave it in the fridge. I also endulge on a cranberry scone which was served with cream and rasberry jam. It was quite tasty. Liberty Market has a variety of seating areas indoors and out and also has a coffee bar. A good selection of wine and beer are available. There is also self-serve soda, tea, and coffee ($2). Sandwiches come with a cold side item. The offer things like pasta salad, green bean salad, and even sweet potato salad.

It’s a relaxing atmosphere great for a small gathering. The staff was friendly and the food was good. Dinner for two with water to drink was just under $18.00. Pretty fair if you ask me. Liberty Market also has free wifi so if you want to make a pit stop to check email, do some work out of the office, or need a change of scenery this is a great place. We will be back and I will add a review of additional food items that we end of trying.

We are hoping to convince them to start serving Dos Cabezas wine there.

Well I am always late to the party when it comes to social networking apps. Not that I don’t get them I just didn’t feel like participating. Well now I am using Twitter? Why well lots of companies use Twitter and since I am supposed to be a know it all technology consultant I decided I needed to use Twitter. So yay add another Twitter user to the mix. I have added a plug-in to WordPress which should update my Twitter account when I make new blog posts. Maybe that will help with my readership.

New Piece of Art

Annette blew me away at my 40th birthday bash and bought me a work of art. A PRS CE22. This is something that I have dreamed of owning for 20 years! Now it will be time to enhance my guitar playing skills along with my new passion, drumming. Unreal my wife is the best! Alex Grossi is handing me my new machine. He also plays PRS guitars and does a far better job than me. Thanks Alex for making ROWYCO 2008 a huge success.
